Meet Ahuti Ferid, LAc. of New Dimensions Acupuncture & Herbology in Ben Lomand, CA. She is an active participant offering acupuncture at MHCAN and at the Homeless Services Center on Coral Street on a monthly basis. She often incorporates a very gentle, warm oil foot massage, possibly with an essential oil, before needling a client, just to relax them. She also uses TCM therapies such as cupping, scraping and moxabustion to move blood stagnation, increase circulation and for pain relief. Ahuti is a member of the California State Oriental Medicine Assoc. (CSOMA) since 1990.

AYURVEDIC SHIRODHARA FOR PTSD, CALMING THE SHEN, HEART ISSUES, ANXIETY, ABUSE….
This was really an exciting day at MHCAN (Mental Health Community Action Network) today. The AHG CA Chapter & East West Free Herbal Clinic is at MHCAN every 3rd Wednesday of the month and we are really enjoying the setup here. We have access to a very large room, with tables, chairs, massage tables and screen dividers for privacy during herbal intakes.
Today, Michael Tierra, L.Ac., OMD brought Shirodhara to our clinic. This is an Ayurvedic therapy for deeply relaxing the mind, calming the shen, for PTSD, anxiety, heart issues, abuse, etc. In this first photo, if you look closely, you can see liquid pouring out of the aperture onto the client’s forehead. Normally, sesame oil is used in this therapy, but brilliantly, Michael made a tea of gotu kola leaves, and this was used instead of oil. This therapy can last for 30 minutes to an hour. This client was so deeply relaxed he fell asleep. I looked up the properties of gotu kola (centella asiatica) and it is used to balance the right and left hemispheres of the brain, and to balance neurotransmitters.
The real thrill is observing client’s after the treatment and noting changes in behaviour. The people that received this treatment today were so very happy with how they felt afterwards. They thanked us sincerely and profusely and plan to return next month.
The very first person to arrive today was a Gulf War Veteran withPTSD. He asked to see Michael, as Michael had treated him last time. He could not wait to tell him that the herbal tincture Michael gave him last time helped him to sleep the entire night for the first time in four years. He told us he used to dread going to sleep and now he is having very beautiful dreams and really looks forward to it, and is sleeping all through the night, every night. Michael had given him Albizzia Tincture.
